A Horror In Clay (Intro)
03:21
|

“The most merciful thing in the world,
I think, is the inability of the human
mind to correlate all its contents.
We live on a placid island of ignorance
in the midst of black seas of
infinity, and it was not meant that
we should voyage too far.
The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us
little: but someday the piecing togetherof dissociated knowledge
will open up such terrifiying vistas of reality, and of our frightful
position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation
or flee from the light into the peace
and safely of a new dark age.
In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming. That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons, even death may die…”

The Madness From The Sea
In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming!
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons, even death may die!
Mr. Francias Thurston inherits papers
And an old bas-relief from his granduncle.
The small sculpture, described by Thurston as
“A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted on a grotesque and scaly
Body with rudimentary wings.
This sculpture was the work of a Henry Wilcox
Based on his “delirious dreams of great Cyclopean
Cities of Titan blocks and sky flung monoliths,
All dripping with green ooze and sinister with latent horror!”
In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming!
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons, even death may die!
Found within his granduncles notes are accounts
Of mental illness related to these delirious dreams.
And around the globe maniacs has referred to this
ominous being and are then found dead!
In 1908, the American Archeological Society
Attempts to identify a statuette recovered from
Some kind of voodoo ritual in the New Orleans swamps
And the idol clearly mirrors the Wilcox Bas-relief!
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons, even death may die!
Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh whah’nagl Fhtagn!
Even though hes learned too much
Thurston needs to know, more
He then discovers an article describing the discovery
Of a derelict ship with one survivor
Who only repeats “The Madness from the Seaaaa!”
Thurston travels to find this man
and discovers that he has died
But has left behind a manuscript
Which describes the fate of the derelict ship!
"He is Gustav Johansen, a norwegian and 2nd mate to the ship "EMMA" of Auckland. The EMMA was delayed and thrown widely south of her course by the storm of March 1st."
On an uncharted island, with a coastline of
Mingled mud, ooze and weedy Cyclopean masonry
The crew disembarks from the weathered “EMMA”
And makes their way towards nothing less than
The nightmare, corpse city of R’lyeh!
The crew fail to comprehend the strange,
Non-Euclidean Geometry of the city.
And due to their ignorance they
Open a monterous, carven portal …
It lumbered, slobberingly into sight and
Gropingly squeezed its gelatinous green
Immensity though the black doorway.
The stars were right again, and what an
Age old cult had failed to do by design,
A band of sailors had done by accident!
After vigintillions of years, great Cthulhu was loose again, and ravening for delight.
The crew flees, being devoured one by one
Only Johansen and one crew mate escape.
Once on the ship they flee but with
The monstrosity in pursuit of the vessel!
With one last breath the crew mate screams
“THE MADNESS FROM THE SEA!”
Johansen turns the ship and rams the creatures head! …
It bursts with a slushy nastiness
And the stench of fish
Only to immediately be
Reformed!
"That was all. After that Johansen only brooded over the idol in the cabin and attended to a few matters of food for himself and the laughing maniac by his side. As my uncle went, as poor Johansen went, so I shall go. I know too much and the kvlt still lives."

Haunter
Robert Blake was found dead in his apartment
Struck by lightning filed the authorities
But to damage to the building was found!
They found his diary, filled with
Knowledge of a church in Providence
And a demonic entity living within! …
A few days earlier, Blake was drawn to the church on the hill
He has heard stories of cults worshiping dark spirits there, he must know!
Driven by his itch he makes his way down town to investigate, this mysterious place.
As he gets closer, he sees the streets getting less and less dense, they are now empty.
He arrives at the church, enters the dark basement
Through a slightly cracked window.
Discovered are strange religious symbols scattered throughout.
He makes his way to the base of the steeple on the first floor.
What he finds, is a dark redstone suspended in an open box
It entraps his gaze! And shows him images of space and time,
Far beyond his intellect!
Startled by a sudden sound from behind him,
He whips around to see a human skeleton
Disrupted by a rats attempt to escape the room,
His heart skips in shock.
The corpse seems to be charred as if it was burned
and some parts melted off!
Found on the corpse was a file about a man who found
The “Starry Wisdom Church”… Enoch Bowen!
This man Bowen was a renown occultist and archeologist!
Who brought the dark stone back from Egypt
Blake takes the file, closes the box
And exists the church the same way
That he came!
Once home he digs through the file only to learn
One gaze into the Trapezohedron
Will awake the Haunter of the Dark!
But the lights of the town will keep it
Contained to the church, it cannot
Move but it in the darkness
This is the Haunter of the Dark
That lurks in the church
On federal hill!
Blake knows he should stay clear of the church
But it draws his gaze he cannot escape!
The haunter will not get out of his mind
He has to know whether its real or just a tale!
Just, a, tale!
In a haze, and a glowing light
Dreams of space, and a cryptic entity
Feeing astral, but with a conscious mind
Blake finally realized, this is not a dream!
Blake was .. In the Steeple .. of the Church!
He was gazing into the Haunter’s eyes,
In the stone, in the dark! In the dark!
Breaking free and full of fear,
Blake sprints out of the church and back home!
Trying to comprehend what he just witnessed
He discovers an alarming fact!
There was a storm and all the power in the town was cut out,
There are no lights only dark
He gazed up at the church to see a black shape
Break out of the steeple window! ….
It makes its way towards me!
It’s the haunter of the dark!
I see it coming here!
HELLWIND! TITAN BLUR!
BLACKWINGS! YOG-SOTHOTH SAVE ME!
THREE LOBBED BURNING EYE!
HAUNTER OF THE DARK!
"The rigid body sat bolt upright at the desk by the window, and when the intruders saw the glassy, bulging eyes, and the marks of stark, convulsive fright on the twisted features,
they turned away in sickened dismay.
Blake had prolonged his frenzied jottings to the last, and the broken-pointed pencil was found clutched in his spasmodically contracted right hand."

Innsmouth, Massachusetts

Innsmouth, Massachusetts
I seek passage from Newburyport to Arkham
But the cheapest route is by the bus that passes through Innsmouth.
I have heard the people there have been mutated by some sort of
Epidemic that gives them narrow heads, bulging eyes and scabby skin.
I board the bus to this port town
and Im overwhelmed by the stench of fish
And the driver shares the same mutations as to rumors tell.
Instantly I feel revulsion to the sight
and stench but I rest my head on the
Rain covered window as I start my trek.
On route to the town
I see less and less
Inhabited homes
Left as statues of stone!
Upon arrival
Most structures are dilapidated
And abandoned
Or seemed to be in …
INNSMOUTH MASSACHUSETTS!
SUFFERS FROM A CURSE, FROM THE DEPTHS!
ALL ALONG THE MISTY SHORELINE!
SHADOWS LURK BENEATH THE WAVES!
THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOTH!
IS AN ANCIENT TRANSFORMATION!
THE DEEP ONES EMBRACE YOUR ARRIVAL!
AND WILL MAKE YOU ONE OF THEM!
Once in town I make my way to the First National Gorcery
The clerk there told me to stay clear of the people
And the churches of Dagon and to seek out a drunk
Named Zadok who might tell me history of Innsmouth
In exchange for a bottle of VODKA!
After sometime I found Zadok drunk on the shoreline
I presented the VODKA but demanded and explanation
Of this crumbling town
He told me of a time when the lack of fish
Drove this town into starvation
And Captain Marsh prayed to Dagon
On Devil’s Reef and raised the deep ones from the depths
To curse and murder half the town
And breed with the rest, hence the Innsmouth look
After Zadok’s drunken ramblings, he hysterically screams
“YOU MUST LEAVE INNSMOUTH TONIGHT, IMMEDIETLY!”
And then sprints away screaming,
“THE OLD TRAIN TRACKS, YOU MUST LEAVE!”
I began to think of what Zadok said and
Thought it best to make my way back to the bus
And continue on to Arkham.
But when I arrived back to the bus
And talked to the driver he said
“The bus is broken down and will
Not be leaving Innsmouth tonight.”
My stomach churned not only from what I just heard
But also from his bulgy eyes, scalely skin and rotten stench!
INNSMOUTH MASSACHUSETTS!
I MUST STAY HERE THIS NIGHT!
DIRECTED BY THE DRIVER!
TO STAY AT THE GILMAN HOUSE!
I GOT MY ROOM!
LOCKED THE SHABY DOOR!
AND WITH GREAT UNEASE!
I DRIFTED OFF TO SLEEP…
I awoke many times in the night
Unable to sleep in this
Musty, strange place
Then theres a sound from the door
I make my way to the door
but take notice of the lack of windows in this room!
The closer to the door that I get
The louder and clearer the noise becomes.
It seems to be whispering
Coming from the otherside
The door knob begins to rattle
As if someones trying to get in… get in ….
I decide to look though the keyhole
But when I do my eye is met with another eye
I fall back realizing what I just saw
The rattling turns into banging
AM I IN A DREAM?! IS THIS REALLY ME?!
YES!! And I must no escape!
By any means, I MUST ESCAPE!
I run to the conjoining room’s door
“It is locked!” so I bang with all my strength
Luckily I locked the deadbolt on my door
Which gave me enough time to get this one down
As it falls, so does the one behind me
I look back and see two tall dark figures
Making their way towards me
As if time stopped, I begin to think
“Could these be the cursed men if Devil’s Reef?”
With a wave of adrenaline
I turn back to the other room
And see a window on the far side
This is now my only route
They are closing in…
With Snarling and banging coming from every door
I sense the ones behind me drawing near
So I sprint at full speed to the window
And leap with a crash!
Gathering my sense from that two story fall
I can hear my pursuers converging on my very soul!
I take off in a sprint to the shoreline
In hopes to find old Zadok
But all I see is a man in a red robe
And dark shapes emerging from the water!
INNSMOUTH MASSACHUSETTS!
THE DEEP ONES HAVE RISED!
AND ARE IN PURSUIT OF!
ME ON THIS NIGHT!
AIMLESSLY RUNNING!
THROUGH THIS CURSED TOWN!
I REMEMBER ZADOK’S WORDS!
“THE OLD TRAIN TRACKS! YOU MUST LEAVE!!!”
"The reality of what I had been through was highly uncertain in my mind, but I felt that something hideous lay in the background.
I must get away from evil-shadowed Innsmouth - and accordingly I began to test my cramped, wearied powers of locomotion.
Despite weakness hunger, horror, and bewilderment I found myself after a time able to walk; so started
slowly along the muddy road to Rowley."

"I caught the night train to Arkham, and the next day talked long and earnestly with government officials there;
a process I later repeated in Boston.
Perhaps it is madness that is overtaking me -
yet perhaps a greater horror - or a greater marvel - is reaching out."
